Walking it Out
I often get grief for being “too positive”, but believe me, I have my share of struggles just like anyone else. And today, well I feel like STUFF is coming at me from all directions, not to mention that this is the second time I’ve written this blog because the first draft magically disappeared! So how does the one who continually tells everyone that ANY day can be extraordinary deal with a stressful day?
Typically, when we’re faced with stress we try to run from it and seek pleasure to make us feel better. You know, the cupcake, the second glass of wine, the new pair of shoes. Experts tell us that this actually add to the stress in the long run as we deal with the consequences of what may have been a bad decision. The best thing we can do is walk through the difficulty, experience it and learn from it. I think I have run away from a lot of lessons from God only to wind up in the same situation later. So today I choose a different path. I choose to stand on the Word of God. The Bible is my go-to manual for life and here’s what God has to say about my day:
His grace is sufficient for my circumstances * 2 Corinthians 12:9
He goes before me, beside me and behind me * Deuteronomy 31:8
He holds me in his right hand and I have nothing to fear * Isaiah 41:13
The joy of the Lord is my strength. * Nehemiah 8:10
I may not always feel happy but joy and happiness are not the same thing. Happiness is fleeting, but joy is a deep-seated contentment and peace, knowing that God’s got this. I love that saying “It’s all going to okay in the end, if it’s not okay, it’s not the end”. Proverbs 3 tells me that if I “trust in the Lord with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding, He will direct my paths”. I love the Contemporary English Version that says “God will clear the road”.
