I recently ran across this scripture in the Bible:
"Everyone who has been wise will shine as bright as the sky above, and everyone who has led others to please God will shine forever like the star." Daniel 12:3
It caused me to do some introspection - what does it mean to shine?- I mean what does that look like? I immediately thought of the opposite - I've had plenty of encounters with those who seem "dark" - they're negative, forlorn, angry and it's uncomfortable to spend a great deal of time in their presence. Think of the joy when you encounter someone who brings light - they might be funny, light-hearted, encouraging and you ENJOY being in their presence. You leave them feeling uplifted and you look forward to seeing them again. So the question I was left with was "Do I bring light into others' lives?"
It's my heart's desire to bring joy and encouragement to others - and that especially includes those who might be in a dark place. When Jesus is in the center of our lives, we have a constant and reliable source of joy and peace. We don't have to manufacture the light - when just need to LET IT OUT. We need to shine!
Think about it today when you encounter your friends, your family and even the strangers God brings across your path. Choose to bring light. The world could certainly use a little more!
