Does the world seem louder to you? It seems so noisy to me. There’s Covid, protests, unrest not to even mention my own personal struggles. I just want to tell everyone to be quiet for a minute and reset.

There’s a story in the Bible about a man named Elijah who was in despair and hiding in a cave – perhaps an early example of social distancing. He needed some direction, he needed to hear from God.  He expressed his despair to God and God gave him instructions to stand on a mountain, promising him he was going “pass by”. All at once a huge wind shook the mountain and shattered the rocks. But God was not in the chaos of the wind. Next there was an earthquake, but God was not in the earthquake, then came the fire, but again, God was not in the fire. And then, there was the pivotal moment when all the chaos stopped, and there was a gentle breeze, and that is where Elijah heard the voice of God.

If you’re overwhelmed by the chaos of life right now, I suggest you spend some time being quiet. Listen for His voice, let His peace saturate your soul.  I Corinthians 14:33 tells us that

“God is not the author of confusion, but of peace.”

Your world may be far from peaceful, but let your soul find the quiet, let your soul drink in His peace.

Corrie Ten Boom once said “Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God”

I hope those words are like a gentle breeze to your soul
