It’s been awhile since I’ve had a beauty product foible, so I guess I was due. Hero Husband and I did a little shopping last weekend and took advantage of the Bath and Body sale. I got up to the register and they invited me to grab one more item as my “free gift”. There were several people behind me and I didn’t want to make them wait, so I grabbed the first tube of lotion that looked acceptable. Yay me – I love free stuff.
Fast forward to Monday morning. I thought I’d apply a little lotion and remembered my fabulously free find, grabbed it from the closet and took a big whiff – yum! I squirted an adequate amount in my palm and began to apply to my arms. Wow, this stuff is thick. I kept massaging but it wasn’t being absorbed. Mental note – a little bit goes a long way with this stuff. I transferred some of the excess to my legs and then went back to my arms. It was finally starting to settle in, but felt, well – sticky. Now I know they make different consistencies – there’s “lotion”, “body cream”, “body butter” and probably a few more – what is THIS stuff? So I grabbed the tube to discover that it was not lotion, it was not body cream, it was not body butter – it was body WASH.
So as I took my second shower of the day, I got to thinking:
Has anyone ever talked you into doing something you KNEW you weren’t cut out for? I know, being rather suave with sales, I’ve convinced a lot of people to be in skits or dramas that should have probably stayed in the audience for all parties concerned. I too have been bullied, err, I mean encouraged to do things that I knew demanded gifts I didn’t have. Being out of your comfort zone is good…until it isn’t. Face it, there are some places we just don’t belong and that’s okay.
“Each of you has been blessed with one of God’s many wonderful gifts to be used in the service of others. So use your gift well. If you have the gift of speaking, preach God’s message. If you have the gift of helping others, do it with the strength that God supplies. Everything should be done in a way that will bring honor to God.” I Peter 4:10-11
Don’t try to be lotion when you’re body wash – it’ll keep you out of “sticky” situations.
Outside your comfort zone is good until it’s not – there are some places we don’t belong because it’s not our jam – it’s not what we do – body wash does not work well as lotion.
