I Can Get Bigger

Often in our lives we are called to climb mountains…obstacles perhaps, or maybe just a challenge. Either way, we face a season of growth. When a mountain appears in your life how do you react?

Do you:

  1. Deny the mountain exists and stay stuck in your present condition?

  2. Look for a way around the mountain or a short cut, some sort of easier way…and waste    precious time focusing more on the difficulty of the challenge than overcoming the challenge?

  3. Brave the ascent, taking on the challenge to become stronger, and experience all life has to offer?

Edmund Hillary, a fascinating man from New Zealand, was one of the first to attempt to climb Mt Everest and he failed. He was quoted as saying to the mountain:

“You can’t get any bigger, but I can.”

He went back and re-conditioned his body, re-organized his plan, and struck out with new confidence. Edmund succeeded on his second attempt, and was later quoted as saying:

“It’s not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves.”

Perhaps you’re facing a mountain today. I want to encourage you to start climbing and expect a new perspective. I know it can be scary, I know it can be foggy. You might get lost for a time and there might be moments when you consider turning back. I promise you the victory will be worth the climb. If you, too, have tried and failed maybe it’s time to check your backpack. Make sure you have the Bread of Life (Jesus), the Living Water (the Holy Spirit). Throw in some fruits of the spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control). Now grab the hand of your Heavenly Father and try again.

Wait till you see the view from the top!!!
